Every time you plug in your EV, you’re paying full price for electricity. The EV Charging Savings Plan gives you two daily windows when EV charging costs $0/kWh, and your Emporia charger routes sessions into those windows automatically.
Two Free Charging Windows Every Day
The plan includes two daily windows when EV charging costs $0/kWh:
- Overnight: 10pm to 5am (7 hours)
- Midday: 12pm to 4pm (4 hours)
That’s 11 hours of free charging windows per day. The overnight window alone is enough to take most EVs from near-empty to full by morning. The midday window gives you an option to top off during the day without paying for it.
Outside those windows, charging runs at your standard plan rate.
A Flat Fee, Not a Rate Penalty
Most “free nights” electricity plans lower your overnight rate by raising your daytime rate. Your home’s other usage, air conditioning, appliances, and everything else, all bills at that higher rate. The discount on EV charging is real, but some of it comes back in what you pay during the day.
The EV Charging Savings Plan charges a flat $14.95/month EV service fee instead. That covers the free charging windows and the automatic scheduling. Your standard energy rate stays unchanged, with no markup built in to fund the free hours.
| Standard TX rate | Typical free nights plan | EV Charging Savings Plan | |
|---|---|---|---|
| EV charging cost | Full rate, all hours | $0 overnight, higher daytime | $0 during free windows |
| Monthly EV fee | None | None (built into daytime rate) | $14.95 flat |
| Daytime energy rate | Standard | Marked up | Standard |
| Scheduling | Manual | Manual | Automatic |
What You’d Typically Save
At a standard Texas rate, 300 kWh of EV charging runs about $42 a month. With a flat $14.95/month EV fee covering unlimited charging during the free windows, that works out to roughly $27/month in savings, or about $325/year for a typical EV owner.
Your number depends on how much you charge and when. Use the calculator below to see an estimate based on your own bill and charging habits.
Your Routine Doesn’t Change
Keep plugging in whenever you get home. The Emporia app automatically routes charging sessions into the free windows, so your car is ready in the morning at the lowest possible cost. There’s nothing to set, track, or manage.
If you ever need to charge outside the free windows, you can override anytime at your standard rate. The app handles the default; you stay in control.
This is the advantage of your charger and your electricity plan coming from the same company. The scheduling works because Emporia already runs your charger. The plan made the hours you were already charging free.
Built for Emporia Charger Owners
This plan requires an Emporia Pro or Classic Level 2 EV Charger connected in the Emporia app. Most EV owners in Texas can’t get it. You can.
Because Emporia has your charging history, your savings estimate is based on your actual usage, not a Texas average. The automatic scheduling works because the app already runs your charger. That’s what makes this different from a rate plan with an app feature bolted on.
A few practical details:
- Contract: 36 months, fixed energy rate. If you cancel before the term ends, a $395 early termination fee applies. Texas law gives you 3 calendar days to cancel after receiving your plan documents without any penalty.
- Currently under contract: You can schedule your start date up to 90 days in advance.
- Coverage: This is your full home electricity plan, not an EV-only rate. It covers all your home’s usage at a fixed energy rate for the full 36-month term.
- EV compatibility: Any make or model. The charger is the requirement, not the car.
Have Solar Panels?
The EV Charging Savings Plan works alongside the Solar Buyback add-on, which credits you 3.5¢/kWh for every kWh you export to the grid. If your panels produce more than your home uses during the midday free window, you get both free charging windows and a credit for what you send back. The calculator above includes a Solar Buyback toggle so you can see the combined effect.
Customers with both solar and an EV charger can also enroll in the Solar + EV Charging Savings Plan, which bundles both into a single plan.
Start saving on every charge.
Switching is entirely online in the Emporia app and takes about 10 minutes. No technician visit, no service interruption.
