How the program works
Emporia owns the battery and enrolls it in Connecticut's Energy Storage Solutions program. At certain times, the battery sends stored energy to help support the grid. Emporia receives the program payments, which help cover the cost of the battery and standard installation for qualifying homes.
If the grid goes down, the battery switches to back up your home. After each grid event, it recharges automatically.

When grid power goes out, the battery takes over automatically, fast enough to keep TVs from flickering and clocks from resetting. It works whether you're home or away.

The battery charges during lower-cost off-peak hours and helps power your home during higher-cost peak periods, automatically, without anything for you to configure. We'll make sure you're on the right rate plan in your area. If you have solar, it also stores excess generation so more of what your panels produce stays in your home.
The battery installs outdoors, not in your home, garage, or basement. We also install an Emporia Vue 3 Home Energy Monitor in your electrical panel so you can see your home's energy use.
If you already have a gas generator, it works with the battery rather than against it: the battery can start it automatically and draw up to 19.2 kW from it. The battery covers shorter outages, and your generator is still there for the storms that last days.

Every installation includes an Emporia Vue 3 energy monitor in your electrical panel. On average, customers with a Vue save 10% on their monthly electric bills, because the Vue shows your home circuit by circuit instead of one number at the end of the month. Once you can see which circuits cost the most, you know where to cut.
The battery does its part automatically, charging when electricity costs less and powering your home when rates are higher. If you have solar, more of your excess production goes toward running your home, charging your EV, and powering your smart devices instead of flowing back to the grid.
